24 Mar Whitehaven Motor Yachts 7500 Sports Yacht – Custom crafted to the finest detail
The much-anticipated Whitehaven Motor Yachts 7500 Sports Yacht is well underway on the first of its many bluewater cruising adventures, heading home to Darwin from the Whitsundays where its owners fished, swam, explored the islands and entertained friends and family.
Named Finito as its owners’ “forever boat”, the new Whitehaven Motor Yachts 7500 Sports Yacht was delivered in November to its ecstatic owners who flew from Darwin to the Gold Coast for the official handover and subsequent celebration.
At just over 22-metres, Finito features single level, open-plan living and dining space, boasting a seamless flow between interior and exterior thanks to a custom-designed, one-touch electric sliding door by Aerotech.
Like every Whitehaven Motor Yacht, the 7500 Sports Yacht, was born from its owners’ desire for something “outside the square”.
Seasoned boat owners, they sought an entirely unique, bespoke boat, crafted to their specifications in every facet, from concept to completion, melded with hallmarks that set Whitehaven apart from anything on the market.
This is the second Whitehaven Motor Yacht for this discerning couple, who took ownership of their previous boat, Y Knotin 2010. Larger, wider and with added features, Finito was fully customised inside and out, the owners working closely with company founder and bluewater expert, Keith Hanson and his son and master boat builder, Ryan Hanson, who heads up the factory team in Taiwan.
They took a hands-on role in the build process, visiting the factory four times and liaising with the Whitehaven team via email and skype, all with guiding ethos “no preconceived notions and no limitations”.
In the saloon lounge, dining, galley and below decks, every piece of furniture was designed by the couple and built to spec at the factory, while all the fittings, fixtures, appliances and electronics are imported from Italy, the US and Australia.
“The Whitehaven difference is we can work with clients at every step and create their dream boat right down to the last detail,” Keith explained. “Building in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the specialist boat building zone, allows us to keep labour and other overheads at a minimum so owners achieve the quality and specification they desire for a fraction of the cost of a European or Australian-built craft.”
Along with its long-range cruising capacity, courtesy of a 10,000 Litre fuel tank, which means it can roam for 1,500 to 2,000 miles for 10 hour treks, the 7500 Sports Yacht is the perfect entertaining platform.
The supremely spacious aft deck seats 10 or more on oversize banquettes, with extended hard top awning for complete protection from the sun. Then there’s a barbeque, bar with additional seating and a unique electric up-down Aerotech window which opens to the galley.
The large tender garage accessed via a hydraulic door from the extra-large swim platform, was purpose-built to house a 4-metre fiberglass Haines Hunter Sea Wasp, ideal for boating in all environments, from the reef to the mud and mangroves.
The foredeck boasts generously-sized seating and a table, designed for more intimate occasions, such as cocktails while taking in the dramatic sunsets the Top End puts on all year round.
The saloon, galley, lounge, dining and helm are open plan and inviting. Two leather Besenzoni helm seats swivel to join in the socialising, while the 8-seater dining table was custom-crafted with rounded sides and full-size seats to take full advantage of the boat’s extra beam. The galley’s Corian benchtops, concealed appliances and ample storage are features well suited to the owners’ prerequisites of a no-fuss, durable and stylish interior.
Below decks are three sizable suites, including the impressive full-beam Master, with king-bed, chaise, desk, vanity, robes and stunning ensuite boasting twin sinks, full-height shower and seaview.
The owners opted for a second galley/utility area amidships, specifying top of the range Fisher & Paykel appliances and Corian benchtops. The owners’ eye for unique yet understated elegance is evident in hand-chosen elements such as textured timber, woven Italian leather feature panels, Versace tiles in the bathroom and optimal use of space, light and storage in every nook.
The engine room, with its 7-foot ceiling height and watertight door, houses an air-conditioned workshop, rod and equipment storage, deepfreeze and the boat’s electrical systems. The 240 Volt electrical set up was designed to Australian standard by Electrical Marine Surveyor, Peter Fowler of Benson & Brown.
Finito boasts two Cat C18 ACERT 6 cylinder engines running 1,150 horse power each and at 10 knots over long distances, fuel consumption is about 64 Litres per hour, which is the same as the owners’ previous boat.
The boat uses the revolutionary Twin Disc QuickShift transmission designed to interface with the Twin Disc EC300 MGX Electronic Control System. Added to that, there are three Express Joystick System:registered: stations, one at the main helm, one each side in the cockpit.
Finito can be controlled conventionally through the EC300 dual leverhead station right up to full speed, while the joystick is best for docking and travel or manoeuvring at slow-speed up to 10 knots.
The hydraulic thrusters were supplied by Side Power as was the high-tech Zero Speed Vector Fin stabilisation system.
“The Express Joysticks are a sheer joy to use and make docking and manoeuvering simple and user-friendly, which is ideal for the owners who plan to do a lot of cruising around the island groups in the north of Australia and as far as PNG,” explained Keith, adding that Finito’s owners were thrilled with the 15-month lead time between sealing the deal at the Sydney Boat Show in 2015 and delivery in November 2016.
“They are looking forward to a brilliant summer of cruising the Whitsundays with friends and family, then heading back to Darwin where they can roam for weekends or weeks, as the spirit takes them!”
Keith and the team at Whitehaven Motor Yachts are now looking ahead to an equally successful 2017, proud to offer clients their customary personalised approach with every new Whitehaven.
“The beauty of building with Whitehaven is that owners can be as involved as they choose. You can buy a turn-key boat based on existing models, or we can work with you to accommodate every wish and requirement to bring your ideal boat to life, from concept to fruition.”
IN 2017, Whitehaven Motor Yachts will present its latest range at the Sanctuary Cove and Sydney International Boat Shows with the highlight being the unveiling of the highly-customised 6000 Flybridge.
